A son of Egypt's ousted president Mohamed Morsi was referred to a criminal court Monday for alleged possession and use of hashish, media reported.

Abdullah, the younger of Morsi's two sons, was arrested March 1 in a car with tinted windows along with another person smoking a hashish cigarette in a western suburb of Cairo.

Abdullah then confessed to his possession of the drug and the two agreed to give urine samples.

The two were freed pending investigation and the prosecution said the urine tests proved positive.

Abdullah's elder brother, Ousama, denied the charges as fabricated, saying his brother was kidnapped by police, Xinhua reported citing the state-run Ahram website.

"The incident of kidnapping and then arresting Abdullah Morsi is to defame the honest people," Ousama said.
