Rayo Racing's Ameya Bafna emerged victorious in the senior category as the JK Tyre FMSCI National Karting Championship returned to the Kari Motor Speedway here after a year's break on Saturday.
Bafna started fourth in Heat 1 and slowly made his way up the order. The lead changed hands a few times, but Ameya won ahead of Ricky Donison of BPC racing who started on Pole. Rayo Racing's Nayan Chatterjee was third.
Heat 2 saw another intense battle for the lead as the top four racers were bumper to bumper throughout. Ameya started on pole and managed to stay ahead for most of the race. Ricky was in hot pursuit and moved ahead at one point.
Ameya immediately managed to grab the lead back from Ricky and went on to win the race for Rayo Racing. Nayan took advantage and grabbed second spot ahead of Ricky who finished third.
The Junior grid also witnessed intense battles right through the field. Meco Racing teammates Nirmal USB and Akash Gowda were battling for the lead throughout both the heats. Akash won Heat 1 ahead of Nirmal. However, Nirmal won Heat 2 with Akash finishing second. Championship leader Mohammed Nalwalla of Rayo Racing was third in both heats.
Chirag Ghorpade of BPC racing cruised to victory in both heats of the Micro Max category. He was followed by the Meco Racing duo of Shahan Moshsin and Aditya Swaminathan in both heats.
