Retired Italian midfielder Thiago Motta has been named coach of Paris Saint-Germain's U19 squad.

The 35-year-old enjoyed a magnificent playing career, winning a total of 27 trophies, including 18 with PSG between 2012 and 2018, reports Efe.

Capped 30 times by Italy, Motta begins his new life as a coach on Wednesday with PSG's U19 squad, who are four-time national youth champions (2006, 2010, 2011, 2016).

Motta played 231 matches for the Paris outfit, scoring 12 goals and providing 18 assists.

"The club wishes Thiago Motta as much success as a coach as he enjoyed as a player during his six seasons with the capital club," PSG said in a statement.

Brazilian-born Motta will take charge of his first training session behind closed doors at Paris' Youth Academy.
