The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Monday announced it has finalised Simplex Infrastructures Ltd. for a package on the upcoming Mumbai Metro 2B corridor.

The company will design and build a 12-km-long viaduct and 11 stations in the first part on the DN Nagar-Mankhurd corridor at a cost of Rs 1,080 crore, which was the lowest among all bids received, said a top MMRDA official.

"It will be awarded to the contractor company after the executive committee's approval. It is another important step towards developing the metro network in the city, which is the need of the hour," MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner U.P.S. Madan said.

Simplex Infrastructures Ltd. will construct 11 elevated stations enroute -- ESIC Nagar, Prem Nagar, Indira Nagar, Old Airport, Khira Nagar, Saraswat Nagar, National College, MMRDA Office, Bandra West, IT Office and BKC.

Tenders for the remaining 11 stations -- MTNL Metro, SG Barve Marg, Kurla Terminal, Kurla East, Eastern Express Highway, Chembur, Diamond Garden, Shivaji Chowk, BSNL Metro, Mankhurd and Mandala Depot -- shall be issued separately, Madan added.

The DN Nagar-Mankhurd Metro-2B Corridor is 23.5km long with a total of 22 stations which would have an estimated daily ridership of over 800,000 when completed.
