The Myanmar government Friday warned protesting students against marching to Yangon to demand changes in the country's education law.
Urging the protesting students to suspend their march, the government warned that action would be taken in accordance with law to prevent undesirable problems if the students did not stop their protest march and enter Yangon region, Xinhua news agency reported citing a government press release.
The warning follows talks involving the government, the parliament, Myanmar National Network for Education Reform (NNER) and Leading Committee for Students March Protest who have Wednesday agreed in principle to the protesting students' all 11 points of demand on the amendment of the education law, said the release.
The government was also trying to comply with other demands of the students and the next meeting is scheduled to take place Saturday to discuss the implementation of the agreement, it added.
Hundreds of students have been staging a protest march from Mandalay, the second largest city in the country, to former capital Yangon over the past weeks.
