Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi on Thursday said the outline of ministerial reformation plan would be completed earlier than expected, according to the President's Office.

Suu Kyi told a coordination meeting on the organisational set-up of respective ministries held at the Presidential Palace that if the reorganisation work is completed earlier, the work of the ministries would be speeded up, Xinhua news agency reported.

Myanmar's new government, led by President U Htin Kyaw, reduced the number of ministries from 36 to 21.

The reformed ministries includes a new ministry of Ethnic Affairs.

Significantly, according to the 2008 constitution, the three ministries of home affairs, border affairs and defence are run by the military personnel.

The new government of the National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Suu Kyi, took office on April 1.
