Both houses of Myanmar's parliament have approved without objection a bill revoking the more than 40-year-old Law to Safeguard the State against the Dangers of Those Desiring to Cause Subversive Acts.

Speaker of the House of Representatives (Lower House) U Win Myint on Tuesday announced that since the bill was agreed by both houses without amendment, the Union Parliament will honour the adoption in accordance with the constitution, Xinhua news agency reported.

The bill was first submitted to the Lower House for debate earlier this month and then transferred to the House of Nationalities (Upper House).

Both houses agreed to withdraw the law, which was enacted in 1975 to allow declaration of state of emergency for any territory in the country and restriction of any citizens' fundamental rights.
