Myanmar on Monday said it was investigating a recent attack on its nationals in Malaysia.
Fifteen Myanmarese workers were attacked on January 5 by four masked assailants when they left from work at the factory of Elecol Switchgear in Serdang, Xinhua news agency reported.
Four workers were killed on the spot and one of the three injured succumbed while being taken to hospital.
U Myo Aung, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Immigration and Population, said seven Myanmarese workers from the factory were being kept in police custody for questioning.
Myanmar authorities have, in response, stopped sending workers to Malaysia, said U Zaw Htay, spokesperson for the presidential office, urging illegal workers to contact the embassy for safety.
Altogether 30 Myanmarese workers were working at the factory and 15 of them were undocumented.
