The National Youth Parliament Festival, where youth from across the country will share their ideas on how to make India better, began on Saturday.

"Every year we celebrate a national youth festival in the month of January. This year we thought why don't we celebrate it in the form of a Parliament where youth from 18 to 25 years, who can vote but not contest elections, make themselves heard," Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said during a press conference here.

The festival, which will continue till February 24, will be conducted at the district, state, and national levels. It is open to youth between 18 and 25 years of age.

The participants will be selected through a competition, which they can enter by sending a pitch to the government in the form of a video or in person. They will first be selected at the district level to ultimately qualify to compete at the national level.

The participants can send their digital pitch -- a video in which they will make their case on policies to improve the country -- by January 18 through mygov.in.

The other option is to walk-in to a nodal office, which the government said it will appoint at every district, and make one's case in person. The screenings for walk-ins will be held between January 17 and 19.

One need not be a student of an educational institute to participate.
