The 24-hour nationwide strike called by public transport, auto-rickshaw and taxi unions has hit Kerala, leaving hundreds of people stranded at bus stands, railway stations and airports in the state.

As part of the nationwide agitation, six trade unions have called the public transport vehicles off the road, demanding repeal of the Road Safety Bill 2014 and anti-motor worker policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government.

The striking unions had earlier announced they would not stop private vehicles from plying, and these could be seen on the roads in the state.
