Several organisations from the northeast on Friday condemned the arrest of a youth from Manipur in connection with a burglary at south Delhi-based school and urged Delhi Police to re-investigate the case.
Rahul Moirangthem, 19, was arrested by Delhi Police on July 13 in connection with the burglary at the Holy Child Auxilium School two months ago.
Police have said the accused -- who had covered their faces -- damaged the CCTV cameras installed in the premises before committing the burglary.
In a letter to Delhi Police, the groups, including several student outfits and activists, said finger prints of Moirangthem, based on which police arrested him, should be retested by authentic international agencies.
Moirangthem's father Ram Dhon, in his letter, claimed that on the intervening night when the burglary happened, Moirangthem was with him.
"Holy Child Auxilium School was reported vandalised on February 13 at 3 a.m.... Moirangthem was with me... it is impossible for Moirangthem to be at two places at the same," Ram Dhon said in the letter, a copy of which is with IANS.
