The Nepal government has invited Bangladesh to discuss a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for bilateral cooperation in energy, officials said on Friday.

Approved by the Nepal Cabinet, the MoU has three components -- power exchange, investment and establishing a joint mechanism to enhance cooperation in energy, according to Nepal's Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoEWRI).

"We have sent a letter to our counterpart Ministry in Bangladesh three-four days ago, inviting them to visit Nepal to finalize the MoU," Dinesh Ghimire, spokesperson of MoEWRI, told Xinhua news agency.

According to him, after the MoU is signed, a joint mechanism will be established for promoting bilateral investment and exchange of power between the two countries.

The MoU, according to Nepali officials, is based on the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) Framework Agreement for Energy Cooperation.
