Wheat arrival in the grain markets (mandis) in Haryana has touched a new high of over 55.93 lakh tonnes this year, an official said on Friday.
The wheat arrival in the corresponding period last year was only 25.26 lakh tonnes, said a food and supplies department spokesman.
Procurement in the state started on April 1 though the bulk stocks started arriving after April 10.
The spokesman said that out of the total arrival, over 55.92 lakh tonnes of wheat has been purchased by the government procurement agencies.
Sirsa district was leading in wheat arrival with more than 7.42 lakh tonnes, followed by Karnal district (6.01 lakh tonnes) and Jind (5.71 lakh tonnes).
