Twenty-four National Party leaders and one each from the Maori Party and the United Future took their oaths as ministers in New Zealand Wednesday.

The ministers were sworn in at a ceremony at the Government House here, Stuff.co.nz reported.

"Today is a day of celebration and also a day to reflect on the responsibility the New Zealand public bestowed upon us," National party leader Murray McCully said.

McCully is likely to be assigned the foreign ministry portfolio.

Prime Minister John Key and his National party achieved a unique third-term feat of increasing its vote count, rising to 48.06 percent of the total votes cast from 47.31 percent in 2011.

The party won 61 of the 121 seats in New Zealand's parliament, up from 59 in 2011.

The elections were held Sep 20.
