NHRC notice to Jharkhand over activist's murder

The NHRC has issued notice to the Jharkhand government over the alleged murder of a rights activist, who was agitating against the Tori railway siding project.

Citing a media report, the National Human Rights Commission said Prahlad Prasad was protesting against the damage being caused to the environment due to the project and was murdered on June 15 in Latehar district.

Accordingly, the commission has issued notice to the chief secretary of the state along with the district magistrate and the superintendent of police in Latehar seeking a report within two weeks.
