The NIA has sought court permission to conduct trial against suspected top LeT terrorist Abu Jundal via video conferencing, fearing he could be killed or kidnapped during transit between jail and court.

Jundal is at present lodged in the Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), in an application before District Judge Amar Nath, said the Maharashtra government apprehends that Jundal alias Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari, an alleged mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, could be killed or kidnapped by rivals while transiting between jail and court.

Referring to resolution passed by the Maharashtra government in May 2013, the NIA said the jail authority is not presenting Jundal despite court warrant.

The probe agency in its application on Tuesday requested the Delhi court the proceedings in the case lodged here were required to be expedited and the trial could be commenced through video conferencing.

The court has asked Abu Jundal's defence counsel M.S. Khan to file the reply on the plea and posted the matter for July 17.

The NIA charge sheeted Jundal here for allegedly conspiring to carry out terror activities in India, including the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
