A Nigeria-born cyclist Tuesday said he was set to embark on a 1,000-km journey from Ghana to Nigeria to raise funds for the victims of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and the fight against the pestilence.

Yemi Oyekoya said he hopes the journey, which will begin Dec 19 from Ghanian capital Accra and end in Nigerian commercial hub Lagos Jan 15, next year, would generate more awareness in the fight against the dreaded disease plaguing some countries in West Africa, reports Xinhua.

"The fight against Ebola has been made possible by voluntary contributions from governments, private organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGO) and individuals. This is why I will be using this platform to generate funds for NGOs that have been involved in catering for the affected areas," Oyekoya said here.

Oyekoya's passion for cycling has been burning like a flame since he got involved in travelling on a bicycle to different countries in 2007.

"I love cycling and journeying through different countries. It is something that gives me great pleasure, especially seeing other countries and meeting diverse cultures," he said.
