A Nigerian national was arrested here for trafficking 70 gram cocaine valued Rs.70 lakh in the international market, police said Wednesday.
Okafor Ejike, 32, a resident of Lagos in Nigeria, was arrested Tuesday afternoon from near the Karol Bagh Metro station in west Delhi where he had gone to deliver the consignment to his contacts.
Ejike told interrogators he was lured into the drug supply by a fellow Nigerian named Chikoje, who left Delhi for his country in June.
"Ejike came to Mumbai on a business visa in March 2013 and arrived in Delhi five months ago," said Joint Commissioner of Police Ravindra Yadav.
Yadav said after reaching Delhi, he was living in Dwarka and started export of readymade garments to Nigeria where his sister used to sell them in the local market.
"As the garment business was not doing well, Ejike landed in financial crisis. Meanwhile, he met Chikoje who lured him into the drug business. He used to supply drugs in various shopping malls and other crowded markets of west Delhi," Yadav added.
