Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan announced a cash reward of $18,447 to Blessing Okagbare who won a silver medal in the women's long jump at the 2013 World Athletics Championships in Moscow.
The Nigerian leader Wednesday also said that Okagbare and her coach, Daniel Esebinimo, would be given national honours, reports Xinhua.
At the championships, Okagbare won the silver medal in the long jump with a leap of 6.99 metres, placed third in the women's 200m race and sixth in the 100m final, with a time of 11.04 secs.
The president tasked the Federal Ministries of Sports and Finance to give adequate support to sporting activities, to enable the country to achieve an outstanding performance at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The president congratulated Okagbare and said the occasion was a celebration of success, dedication and patriotism.
