Police in China destroyed over nine million fake and shoddy products in 125 cities Wednesday, a publicity day for combating and preventing economic crimes.

Since the beginning of 2013, a total of 22,000 cases of economic crimes involving 291.2 billion yuan (about $47 billion) have been cracked, reported Xinhua citing data from the ministry of public security (MPS).

Police have busted criminal rings involved in counterfeiting notes worth 250 million yuan in Jieyang City, Guangdong province, forging 2.6 million invoices in Quanzhou city, Fujian province, and producing more than 90 tonnes of fake and shoddy edible salt in Chongqing municipality, the ministry said.

Police authorities have been cracking down on economic crimes across the nation in recent years.

The ministry said it aims use consistent, harsh measures to stem the crimes of producing fake and shoddy items. It will also offer rewards of up to 50,000 yuan for tip-offs from the public.
