At least nine passengers were killed and 20 others injured on Sunday when a speeding bus coming to Beed from Mumbai plunged over 100 feet into a ditch, police said.
According to the police, the driver lost control of the bus at around 5 a.m. near Ambhora. A majority of the deceased were from Beed.
Officials said it will be probed if the driver was inebriated or fell asleep at the wheel.
The dead have been identified as Rashid Abdul Qureshi, 60, Atik Munawar Khan, 32, Sajerao Laxman Pawar, 30, Yogesh Gautam Takle, 30, Chand Pasha Tajuddin Pathan, 66 (all from Beed), Asima Nazim Syed and Mehrunissa Amin Patel, 35 of Mumbai, Bahadur Ismail Pathan, 65 of Latur, and Sunil Malhari Kumbharkar, 45 of Pune.
The seriously injured were taken to Ahmednagar for treatment.
