The Himachal Pradesh University on Friday decided not to hold direct elections to student bodies in the university and its 110 affiliated colleges to prevent incidents of violence in the run-up to the polls.
This is the second consecutive year when the university authorities decided not to hold direct elections.
The university's executive council approved the constitution of a nominated students central association for which the entire process will be completed between August 24-31, a university official told IANS.
The executive council meeting was chaired by vice chancellor A.D.N. Bajpai.
Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has already said the state government has decided not to hold elections to the student bodies as these were creating law and order problems.
The university last year decided to have a nominated student union comprising all-rounders and meritorious students.
