The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday said the Odd-Even vehicle rationing scheme won't be allowed in the capital till its efficacy was known.

The green court issued the directive a day after the Delhi government announced it would bring back the Odd-Even plan from November 13 to 17 to combat air pollution in Delhi and NCR region. The NGT rapped the Delhi govt for announcing the odd-even scheme despite reports from CPCB and DPCC that it was ineffective.

Also, NGT asked the Kejriwal govt to give an undertaking that it will roll out odd-even only when particulate matter levels are over 300.

The green court also exempted industries engaged in essential services operating in Delhi-NCR on condition that they would not pollute.

The tribunal said the government needed to satisfy the court that the Odd-Even car rationing scheme was productive. The NGT also asked the Kejriwal government why it had exempted two-wheelers and women-only vehicles from the odd-even scheme.

The final decision to roll out the scheme is expected on Saturday.
