A police officer posted in Noida has been detained after his daughter-in-law was found dead under mysterious circumstances, a Ghaziabad police official said Thursday.
The woman's father alleged that the Noida police officer and his family killed his daughter for dowry.
Police said the 26-year-old woman, Neeraj alias Neera, was the daughter of Rookram, a resident of Babrala in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh.
She was married April 1, 2014 to Mohit, the son of sub-inspector Satish Chand Gautam, who is posted in Noida and stays in Pratap Vihar area.
Rookram alleged that he received information at 6 a.m. Thursday that Neera was critically ill. He reached Ghaziabad around 11 a.m. along with his relatives, but was told that his daughter had died and the body was taken for post-mortem examination.
He said his daughter was foaming from the mouth and nose.

Police officer Anil Yadav said the man filed a complaint that his daughter was killed for dowry.
Police launched an investigation and detained the woman's father-in-law for questioning, he said.
Rookram said he spent Rs.15 lakh on the wedding, but the groom's family was pressurising him to give Rs.5 lakh more. He said he paid Rs.2 lakh in December, and accused the family of killing his daughter.
