A North Korean national was arrested by the BSF from West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district and handed over to police for illegally crossing over to India from Bangladesh, a BSF official said on Saturday.

"Jung Ho, a passport holder of Democratic People's Republic of Korea, was apprehended by troopers from Hakimpur on February 14 as he did not have a valid visa to enter India," the Border Security Force (BSF) official said.

"He has been handed over to Swarupnagar police station for necessary action," he said.

Ho said he had been living in Bangladesh since September 2015 to work for a North Korean pharmaceutical company Nam Nam Cooperative.

"He paid a tout to illegally cross the India-Bangladesh border after he was denied a visa to visit India by the Immigration Department," he said.

Ho has told the BSF that he wished to visit Kolkata.
