The information and broadcasting ministry has decided to organise northeast film festivals in all metro cities of the country next year onwards, an official said on Monday.
"We are planning to start the northeast film festival in all major cities of the country from next year onwards. Suggestions have been received from several groups and we are seriously looking into it," Bimal Julka, secretary in the information and broadcasting ministry, told IANS.
A three-day film festival with the theme "Fragrances of the Northeast" was recently organised to give a platform to moviemakers from the region to showcase their talent. A total of 21 movies from six communities of the northeast were screened.
Julka said the ministry was trying to invest on advertisements prior to events related to the northeast.
"We understand that there is a lot of talent in the northeast, so we are constantly trying to make our best efforts to showcase the talent so that the people of the region get the best advantage of it," he said.
