Around 200 students from the northeastern states studying in various colleges of Delhi University Saturday took part in a cleanliness drive to promote civic sense among students of the country.

The students under the banner "I love Delhi University" initiated by the Northeast Students Society of Delhi University, cleaned dirty areas of the university's south campus.

They said they will organise similar campaigns in future to keep the campus clean.

"This is a very appreciable initiative by students from the northeast communities studying in various colleges of Delhi. I will request the other students to follow such initiatives to keep the university campus clean and serene," said Motilal Nehru College principal B.K. Jain, who flagged off the cleanliness drive.

J.T. Tagam, representative of the Arunachal Pradesh Students Union in Delhi, who took part in the cleanliness drive, said: "The cleanliness drive will also help in creating a better understanding between the people from the northeast and the national capital.

"We are Indians and we consider Delhi as our motherland... same as the people in other parts of the country consider it," Tagam told IANS.
