Visva Bharati Vice Chancellor Sushanta Dattagupta, who has sent his resignation to President Pranab Mukherjee, on Saturday said he was not given a chance to defend himself against charges of administrative and financial wrongdoing.
"I was not given a chance to defend myself," Dattagupta told IANS here.
Dattagupta said though he has sent his resignation letter to the president, its fate was as yet unknown to him.
"Yes, I have sent my resignation to the president but I have got no word on whether it has been accepted," he said.
The 68-year-old physicist's resignation comes in the wake of revelations that ministry of human resource development (MHRD) has sent a report to President Mukherjee recommending his removal.
The recommendation was based on the findings of MHRD's three-member committee to investigate the allegations against Dattagupta.
Allegations against Dattagupta include drawing salary from Visva Bharati and pension from Jawaharlal Nehru University simultaneously in alleged violation of the law and making irregular appointments.
