RJD leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh on Monday said the projection of Nitish Kumar as chief ministerial candidate of the RJD-JD-U alliance for the Bihar elections will be harmful.

At a time when there is confusion over the yet-to-be announced alliance of Bihar's ruling Janata Dal-United and the Rashtriya Janata Dal, Raghuvansh Prasad said several communities, particularly the Mahadalits, were angry and unhappy with Nitish Kumar.

"Projection of Nitish Kumar as the chief minister of the alliance will cause loss of face because several communities like Mahadalits, over three lakh contractual school teachers and 70,000 Home Guards are unhappy with him," he told the media.

Last week, Raghuvansh Prasad had said while Nitish Kumar was the chief minister now, this may not be the case after the alliance.

Considered close to RJD chief Lalu Prasad, Raghuvansh Prasad has repeatedly made it clear that he was not in favour of announcing the chief ministerial candidate.

Earlier, he had said that his party had a lead over the JD-U in 145 assembly segments in the 2014 Lok Sabha election and therefore the RJD had a stronger claim to contest more seats.

However, JD-U leaders say they have the larger claim as the party had won 115 seats in the 2010 assembly election against 22 of the RJD.
