Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Wednesday said Maggi was safe for consumption, and tests conducted on the instant noodles turned out to be negative.

"Results of all tests are within limits. There was nothing found wrong (in Maggi)," Parsekar told reporters.

However, a senior official of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) said test results of two samples were yet to be received.

Tests were conducted by the Goa government's FDA on seven Maggi noodle samples, which included one from the Nestle manufacturing unit at Bicholim sub-district in North Goa as well as six from randomly chosen retail stores.

Till late on Wednesday, tests conducted on five of the samples, including one from the manufacturing unit, were negative for monosodium glutamate (MSG) and lead, while results on two others were awaited, according to FDA deputy director Jyoti Sardesai.

"Five tests were negative. Two more test results are awaited," Sardesai said.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party demanded a re-test, expressing doubts about the results of the tests conducted by the government laboratory.

"The AAP demands a re-test because we do not trust the government laboratories in which the tests were conducted," said AAP's Goa-based national executive member Dinesh Waghela.
