Having won the top two posts in the Delhi University Students' Union election after a long gap, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Thursday announced it will now hold bi-weekly 'democracy dialogue' at various colleges in the campus.

"We firmly believe that universities are a place to promote critical thinking and that debate, dissent and dialogue are non-negotiable aspects of all universities," said the Congress's student wing in a statement.

It called the universities "public goods" while opposing the of DU's "privatisation in the name of self-financing".

Apart from the bi-weekly held dialogue, the group will also organise a "Meri marzi" campaign which will "focus on the safety for female students without subjecting them to moral policing or curbs on their freedom".

The re-opening of the 24 hours library and uniformity in the disparate fee structure, were also among the agenda of the NSUI which won posts of the president and vice president after several years in the election earlier this month. It has gone to court over the result for the joint secretary's post which it was initially said to have won but later the candidate of the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad declared the winner and its requests for a recount rejected.
