The number of Syrian refugees taking shelter in Turkey is expected to reach 1.5 million by the end of 2014, according to a report released Wednesday.
A total of 1.05 million Syrian refugees are currently housed in 22 refugee camps and cities in neighbouring Turkey, Xinhua reported quoting the Anadolu News Agency which cited a report released by the International Strategic Research Organisation and the Brookings Institute on Wednesday.
At the current rate, the number of Syrian refugees in Turkey will rise to 1.5 million by the end of 2014, said the report, adding that Turkey has become sixth among the countries in the world hosting the largest number of refugees.
The report urged the Turkish government to develop long-term policies to ease the integration of Syrian refugees into Turkish society as they are likely to stay in Turkey for quite sometime.
