The monsoon session of Odisha assembly beginning on Thursday is set to be stormy as both the opposition and the treasury benches are likely to corner each other on various issues.

The eight-day monsoon session will have six official and two private members' days and will continue till September 16.

The opposition Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party have decided to raise several issues like illegal mining, plight of farmers, drinking water scarcity, alleged irregularities in Chief Minister's poll expenses, deteriorating health system, and law and order to corner the ruling Biju Janata Dal.

"We will raise several issues affecting the common people in the state. Besides, the state government's failure to provide basic services will be raised," said senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Narasingh Mishra.

On the other hand, the ruling party said it was ready to discuss every issue raised by the opposition. The government planned to table nine bills during the session.

BJD President and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday chaired a meeting of party legislators here to draw up a strategy to counter the opposition in the assembly.
