Expecting a rise in online fraud due to excess use of digital transactions after demonetisation, the Odisha government on Saturday said it would set up a cyber police station and cyber forensic division in the state.
The state government will set up the second cyber police station in Bhubaneswar while the cyber forensic division will be commissioned by March next year, Crime Branch Special DGP BK Sharma said.
It was discussed at a meeting attended by police officers from 36 districts and bank officials in Cuttack.
The first cyber crime police station was inaugurated on October 2 at the headquarters of the Crime Branch (CID) in Cuttack.
"Use of cards, mobile banking and e-banking will increase after demonetisation for which there is a possibility of more online frauds in future. There is a lack of awareness among people about this platform. The cops were also sensitised on the various technical skills to probe such crimes," added Sharma.
He said the cyber forensic division at the Cyber Forensic Laboratory would help accelerate the cyber forensic examination process in the state.
