Home ministry officials would visit and hold camps in various districts for minority communities facing problems in grant of citizenship and long term visa (LTV), the government said Tuesday.

"The teams of officials will visit 24 identified districts for citizenship in eight states and 14 districts for LTV cases of minority communities. The officials will hold camps during the next two months and assist the applicants in the settlement of citizenship and LTV cases," said an official statement.

The decision of sending teams was taken after a meeting chaired by Additional Secretary (Foreigners) B.K. Prasad with representatives of minority communities from neighbouring countries to address their grievances related to grant of LTV and Indian citizenship.

The government had Sep 5 set up of a task force under the joint secretary (foreigners) to monitor and expedite processing of citizenship and LTV applications.

The task force has since held interactive sessions in many cities having concentrations of such people to expedite grant of citizenship and LTV.
