Ola to provide 5,000 new cabs in Bengal

The West Bengal Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (WBTIDCL) and India's leading mobility platform Ola on Wednesday entered into an agreement to create 5,000 entrepreneurial opportunities in the state.

Under the agreement, the app-based cab provider will provide 5,000 new cabs to the unemployed youths enrolled in the Employment Bank of Labour Department of West Bengal government.

The permits of these cabs and driver partners will be issued by the state transport authority under the Fleet Taxi Operators Scheme 2018.

"The cabs will be allotted in a phased manner within a year at an investment of Rs 300 crore," the company said in a statement.

Sandeep Divakaran, CFO, Ola Fleet Technologies, said: "The mobility sector in the country is witnessing phenomenal growth and has the potential to empower aspiring entrepreneurs from all walks of life.

"This collaboration is encouraging and instrumental in advancing our mission of enabling mobility for a billion Indians."

The cab provider is operational in four cities -- Kolkata, Durgapur, Asansol and Siliguri -- in the state.
