Sochi Olympic champion Tina Maze of Slovenia grabbed the women's downhill title at the 2015 Alpine Skiing World Championships.

Maze snatched a thrilling victory over Anna Fenninger of Austria, racing down the icy Raptor piste in a minute 45.89 seconds to claim her third world title Friday following giant slalom gold in 2011 and the super-g crown in 2013, reports Xinhua.

Three days after Fenninger beat her by three-100ths of a second in the super-g, Maze came down 0.02 seconds faster than the Austrian for the victory in Vail. It was Maze's eighth medal at a world championship.

Fenninger added downhill silver to her gold in the super-g Tuesday. Switzerland's Lara Gut took the bronze medal, finishing 0.34 seconds behind Maze.

The 2009 world champion and home crowd favourite Lindsey Vonn of the US finished fifth, 1.05 seconds behind Maze and one spot behind Austria's Nicole Schmidhofer.
