At least one person died and several others suffered injuries as stray incidents of violence marred the second phase of polling in Assam on Monday.
One person was killed when CRPF troopers, deployed at a polling station in Safakamar area in Sarbhog constituency, resorted to cane charge soon after voting commenced at the polling station in the morning.
Police said three electors, waiting to cast their votes, were injured in the can charge by the CRPF troopers. The three were rushed to the civil hospital, but one of them died at the hospital, police said.
Similarly, the security forces deployed at a polling station at Nagarbera also resorted to blank firing after clashes broke out between voters and the security forces. No one was, however, injured during the firing.
Police said the voters at the polling station in Nagarbera under Boko constituency complained that the CRPF troopers misbehaved with a woman voter, leading to the clash.
The police, however, contained the situation and voting resumed later.
