One person was killed and two injured as police opened fire on a group of people protesting the killing of a local shopkeeper in Bihar's Samastipur district, an official said on Friday.
Hundreds of angry protesters surrounded Tajpur police station and set ablaze five vehicles on Friday after shopkeeper Janardhan Thakur was shot dead by some unidentified criminals on Wednesday night, a police officer said.
When a group of protesters tried to forcibly enter the police station, the police was forced to shoot, the officer said.
The incident has triggered violent protests. Additional security forces have been deployed and top officials of the district administration are camping in Tajpur in view of the tension.
