One killed in police shelling at Pakistan protest site

At least one women protester was killed and over 50 were injured when police fired teargas and baton charged Saturday night as the protesters moved towards the prime minister's house in Pakistan.

Police started tear gas shelling when protesters of the Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) and the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) tried to enter into the restricted area in the Red Zone in Islamabad, where important state buildings, including the PM house, are situated, Xinhua reported.

Police used baton charge, fired tear gas shells and rubber bullets to disperse the thousands of the protesters demanding resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Injured protesters were shifted to the hospital in Islamabad where one the injured succumbed to her injuries.

At least five media workers and four policemen were also among the injured.
