Upcoming Telugu action-drama "Alias Janaki", coming out July 26, will have a simultaneous online release because its producer Neelima Tirumalasetti believes it will help explore better revenue model.

"Alias Janaki" will be released on Zingreel, an online movie portal. It will be the first Telugu film to have an online screening on the release day.

"I have three strong reasons to screen my film online. Firstly, I believe online screening helps in exploring better revenue models for low-budget films that have limited theatrical release. I want audience to watch movies at their convenience and finally, to bring down piracy," Neelima told IANS.

Neelima says piracy happens because people don't have access to content.

"I'm hoping people won't record the film while watching online. Piracy mostly happens because people don't have access to films. I'm sure when they access the films, they would like to watch it legally as much as possible," she added.

She is confident this move will be fruitful.

"My gut says it will be a successful venture. Smaller countries such as New Zealand and Australia have good Telugu speaking population, but don't have access to all Telugu films. I'm sure these people won't mind watching it online at a cheaper price than what they pay in cinemas," said Neelima.

Directed by debutant Dayaa K, "Alias Janaki" features Rahul Venkat and Anisha Ambrose in the lead roles.

"Alias Janaki" can be watched online for $4.99. The film can be watched at will within 24 hours post payment.

How do you intend to attract audiences to watch online?

"Besides promotion via print, electronic and online media, we have acquired a database of 2 lakh Telugu speaking people through associations abroad. We have been personally emailing them about the film and the opportunity to watch it online," she said.

"I have lived in Dallas for 12 years. I know for a fact that all theatres don't screen Telugu films and people have to drive miles to watch one. To watch a film online at their convenience would be the most suitable option for them," she added.
