Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday took a dig at the opposition parties over their plan to observe the anniversary of demonetisation as a 'Black Day' and said the opposition preferred a cash dominated economy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes last year on November 8. Jaitley said: "They can definitely observe it (November 8) as black day, it proves their devotion to a cash dominated economy."
"The government feels the economy should be a less cash economy, the opposition believes the economy should be cash dominated," he said.
The opposition parties on Tuesday said they would observe November 8 as Black Day to protest against the government's "ill-conceived and hasty" decision to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes a year ago.
Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters here the opposition parties have worked out a joint strategy to register their protest against the November 8, 2016 demonetisation.
