Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Oscar Fernandes Saturday promised a permanent solution to the traffic mess at the Hero Honda crossing on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway within a month.

The minister took stock of the crossing for over 10 minutes and said the situation was serious and needed a permanent solution.

Residents of villages, including Khandsa, Narsingpur, Naharpur, Khatola and Kherki Daula, and top administrative officials told Fernandes that a flyover was the only solution to the traffic mess.

Waterlogging and blocked cuts pose problems as one has to travel five to 10 km for crossing the road (sectors 10 to 34). Villagers residing on either side need to cross it regularly.

After the inspection, Fernandes held a meeting with officials of district administration, Gurgaon police and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). He directed NHAI authorities to prepare a plan as per present day needs.

Fernandes admitted expressway's service lanes were in bad condition and the Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connectivity Limited (DGSCL), the contractor firm, had failed to exercise responsibility.

The minister told the villagers that he had two meetings with Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda last month on the issue.

He said DGSCL officials had been asked to appear in the ministry's office in Delhi Sunday (Sep 15).

Later, the minister reviewed the traffic jam points on the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway. Fernandes, along with NHAI officials, travelled to Jaipur to take stock of the situation.
