Over 1000 teachers used fake degrees in Bihar to get jobs in the government schools, Education Minister Brishen Patel Friday said.
"During our ongoing investigation to check authenticity of their degrees, we have found that more than 1000 teachers used fake degrees to get jobs," Patel told reporters in the Bihar assembly complex here.
Patel said the state government will not only sack them but they will be sent to jail for faking their education qualifications to get jobs.
"It is a serious issue and the Bihar government will take tough action against all those who used fake degrees to get jobs," Patel said.
Patel said the verification process has now been stepped up.
"The education ministry has directed the concerned officials to speed up the verification process of certificates of all the contractual school teachers," the education minister said.
The state government recruited over 1.42 lakh teachers on contract basis for Classes I to 12 between 2006 and 2011.
