The Delhi government on Monday said cabs found charging more than the prescribed fare during the ongoing odd-even traffic scheme will be impounded.

"We want cab services to run in a fair manner. So we have decided to impound taxis charging exorbitant fare, than the government prescribed limit," Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai said.

"We will also seize the licences of the taxi drivers and cancel their permit," he said.

Rai said the order was applicable to all kinds of cab services including online aggregators such as Uber and Ola as well as private taxis, radio taxis and black-and-yellow taxis.

A government statement said the notified rates were Rs.12.5 per km for economy radio taxis, Rs.14 per km and Rs.16 per km for non-AC and AC black-and-yellow taxis, respectively.

The prescribed fare for radio cabs, distinguished by an LCD board on the roof, is Rs.23 per km. Night charges of 25 percent of the total fare are applicable between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
