More than a dozen people were injured when police resorted to a cane-charge on Saturday to disperse a mob opposing the demolition of an 'ashram' during an anti-encroachment drive in Bihar's Madhubani district, police said.
A police team was attacked with stones by the mob after the demolition of the ashram in Laxmipur began following a high court order, a district police official said.
"The mob also set ablaze a JCB machine and a bulldozer brought for the demolition," police said.
According to district officials, the ashram was constructed illegally on encroached land. Earlier this week, the Patna High Court ordered its demolition and asked the district administration to comply with its order.
