A court in Pakistan Tuesday sought medical and police records of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist who was allegedly tortured and admitted to a hospital in critical condition in Karachi city Feb 8.
The Sindh High Court issued instructions against harassment of the activist, who was picked up from his wedding ceremony and then allegedly subjected to torture by police, the Dawn News reported.
The court sought records of the police station's daily diary records.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also sought a report about the incident from the inspector general (IG) of Sindh police, said a spokesperson of the prime minister office.
On Monday, MQM leader Farooq Sattar and the family of the activist filed a petition, impleading the interior and home secretary, director general of Pakistan Rangers, the IG Sindh police and Additional IG Shahid Hayat, and police officials as respondents.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Maqbool Baqar issued notice to the officials and adjourned the hearing till Feb 11.

The MQM leaders staged protests in front of Karachi Press Club and the Chief Minister House demanding the release of the activist, following which four policemen were suspended Sunday.
The MQM is a liberal political party of Pakistan and believes in realism.
