Pakistan said on Monday that it firmly supports China on issues concerning its core interests.
Pakistani Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua made the comment after meeting Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi here.
At their meeting, Yang said it was especially important for China and Pakistan to enhance strategic communication in the present "global and regional circumstances", a Pakistan Foreign Office statement said.
He called on both sides to maintain close high-level contacts, promote the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), forge cooperation in different areas and intensify coordination in multilateral bodies such as the UN and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
Janjua said Pakistan was committed to building the CPEC and would like to maintain close communication with China on major international and regional issues.
Janjua was appointed Pakistan's Foreign Secretary in February. She is the first woman to hold the position.
