Pakistan Rangers on Sunday evening resorted to unprovoked shelling at Indian positions on the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir's R.S. Pura sector, authorities said.
Police said the shelling and firing took place in Abdullian area.
"Pakistan Rangers used mortars and automatics to target Indian positions. This started around 7.15 p.m. and was continuing when last reports came in," a police spokesman said.
"They tried to target some vehicles moving on the Indian side," the officer said, adding that the Border Security Force "effectively retaliated".
No casualty or damage has been reported on the Indian side.
