Pakistan's Punjab Marriage Functions Bill, placing restrictions on indoor ceremonies, passed by the provincial assembly last year has been challenged in Lahore High Court.

Petitioner Advocate Syed Ali Gilani said on Friday that restrictions cannot be imposed on indoor marriage functions as every citizen has a right to organise events inside his house, The Nation reported on Saturday.

The petitioner urged the court to stop the law from being implemented.

The bill, moved by Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, prohibits ostentatious wedding celebrations.

According to the bill, any street, road or a place other than the building where the event is being held, shall not be decorated while organising a marriage.

The bill states that a marriage ceremony should be concluded before 10 p.m.
